About the Green Buildings Open House

Throughout the Northeast, homes and other buildings are taking advantage of clean renewable energy and other green building technologies. On Saturday, October 4th from 10am to 4pm, hundreds of these buildings will open their doors to the public for the Green Buildings Open House. Search the listing of open sites and visit them anytime throughout the day. This self-guided tour is free and open to the public.

The event, which is part of the American Solar Energy Society's National Solar Tour, offers a unique opportunity for people to see first-hand how clean energy and green building practices can be put to work. Homeowners and building managers are on site to describe their green building features and answer questions. Members of the public are able to learn basic principles of green building, such as designing for solar heating ("passive solar"), energy-efficient building techniques such as superinsulation and air sealing, safe indoor air quality, and resource-efficient and healthy building materials. Many of the buildings demonstrate how solar hot water is collected and stored, how photovoltaics can be placed on or integrated into the shell of a building to produce electricity, and how wind can be used to generate power. The Green Buildings Open House demystifies green buildings, proving that they are comfortable, affordable, and attractive. Informational materials will be available at all sites.

NESEA organizes the Green Buildings Open House in the six New England States, plus Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.
