More than 65 attendees joined NESEA for this sold-out Pro Tour of a single-family, net-zero energy home designed to meet ambitious performance metrics and provide safety and resiliency in the event of an extended power outage.  The hosting team from Paul Lukez Architecture shared how innovative technologies and design can be successfully integrated into a compact living model that matches the occupant’s lifestyle while saving – and producing – energy.

The event began with a presentation from the hosts and project partners, which detailed the history of the project, from design strategies through the home’s completion and occupancy in December 2017. The design incorporates passive design principles that both produce and save energy at the site. The south-facing wall has expansive windows that flood the interiors with natural light and heat in the winter. Deep roof overhangs shield inner spaces from overexposure and overheating in the summer. An open floor plan and high ceilings enable air flow through the home, providing natural ventilation. In winter, a combination of triple-glazed windows and the insulated walls optimize the maintenance of solar-warmth.

During the tour, the hosting firm was joined by project partners who will spoke to specific aspects of their work on this home and the site it occupies.  The event concluded with a reception and Q&A.
